If you want to protect your piano for a lifetime, you need to control the humidity surrounding it. The closer to 42% relative humidity you can get it, the longer the tunings last and the longer the life of the piano. Piano Life Saver Systems make it easy to maintain humidity levels. As a certified installer, I highly recommend having one installed for maximum protection.
Climate Control Systems- Piano Life Saver System by Dampp Chaser
"How do I know if I need one?"
if humidity cannot be controlled surrounding the piano
pitch changes wildly at the change of a new season
A humidistat regulates when it needs to add or remove moisture from the soundboard, resulting in longer lasting tunings. The less the moisture content changes in the various woods found in a piano, the longer the life of the piano.
"What does the system actually do?"
"How hard is it to maintain?"
It is extremely easy. You simply add water with an included watering can only when the system tells you to (about once every week to every other week). It takes less than 1 minute and you never have to empty anything...ever.

I recommend hygrometers like these to measure humidity. 42% is the best level for your piano year long.

The Vertical Piano Humidity Control System
When humidity levels rise, it distributes moisture away from your piano using warm air currents.
This is the brain of the System which senses whether the wooden parts of your piano are too moist or too dry and automatically switches the System to function as a Dehumidifier or Humidifier to protect your piano from damage caused by changes in humidity.
Moisturizes the dry wood of your piano when the humidity drops; a low water warning light indicates when the Humidifier needs additional water; refilling the Humidifier is simple and easy.
Features a green light marked POWER to indicate the System has electrical power and a yellow light marked WATER which blinks when the Humidifier needs water. If the System includes the optional Smart Bracket on the Humidifier tank, the red light marked PADS will blink when the pads are no longer wicking water, indicating they should be replaced.
Allows you to provide water to the Humidifier when the yellow light on the 3-Light LED Panel indicates a need for water.
The Piano Life Saver System is silent and installed out-of-sight inside your piano. Each Piano Life Saver System carries a 5-Year Guarantee which can only be activated by having the System installed by a piano technician.
