Pre-hammer boring & hanging
In maintaining as much of the original piano parts as possible, here you'll see each hammer flange screw was removed, cleaned, & polished.
This will help improve the appearance of the action when the new hammer shanks and heads are fitted.

Custom boring heads prior to fitting to shanks
Here, each head is then tapered to allow for clearance during shank travel
Each head is measured with precision to taper the tail (bottom end of hammer head) down to a smaller size. This will help balance hammer weight to the previous set of hammers while also allowing for clearance between notes.
Preparing newly installed shanks, knuckles, & flanges with the early stages of traveling.
Shanks are cut flush to hammer head
Hammer tails are arched for fitting wth backchecks
After the hammers and shanks have been installed, adjustments for the remaining original parts begins.
The total time for this hammer replacement job and various adjustments/reconditioning was estimated to take approximately 39 hours from start to finish.
The result is a hammer that plays evenly with far more dynamics and tone coloring. These hammers will give this owner years of happiness.
