A Complete Action Regulation improves the tone, touch, & performance immensely without having to replace your beloved piano. And since pianos work best with a regulation once every *4 to 8 years to keep the parts working at their optimum level, it also helps sustain their value.
Pianos have over 5,000 moveable & stationary parts of varying sizes, shapes, and materials internally which allow each key to strike its designated string or strings. Over time, your keys' performance will automatically change and deteriorate.
These parts can wear or misalign from useage and uncontrolled humidity levels (for controlling humidity inside your piano, see Piano Humidity System after you've read this page).
How you know when you need a regulation
When your keys feel like they are not responding well or you feel they aren't as powerful as they used to be, it's most likely time. Or if you notice the keys do not play evenly in volume and dynamics (especially when played softly or pianississimo), it's probably time. Slow or sticking keys can also be an indication of a piano needing partial or a complete action regulation. When I tune your piano, I'm checking on your piano's performance capabilities & taking notes.
You can always replace your piano with a new piano if you feel you don't like the way it sounds. You should know, however, that even brand-new pianos require some form of regulation in the first 5 years of existence. So do not feel you have to get rid of your piano just yet. Talk to me about things we can do to better improve the way your piano plays and expresses the response at your fingertips.
How I improve your piano's playability
"Randy recently completed a complete master regulation and voicing of my 11 year-old Samick baby grand. It had always been "bright" but lately it had become so bright that it was brittle to point of being harsh in the middle to high registers.
Also, one key did not hit the proper string, and many others were misaligned. I would not play it without using the soft pedal. Today, the piano sounds marvelous, with a rich, soft tone, but comes alive when you want it to.
Also, although I never noticed that the keys had been so lumpy and irregular, they now all operate quickly, and with the same pressure. It is EASY to play softly ! WOW ! The more I play it, the more I realize how much better it sounds and how much easier it is to play. Thank you!" Bruce Robinson, Client
